Five Ways to Make Your Wedding Day Stand Out

by aiowedding on June 24, 2014

Everyone loves a good wedding, the white dress, the fancy food, the cheesy music; everything about the day is filled with excitement and anticipation.

However when it comes to your own wedding, we want it to be different, to stand out from the pack and to be a day that every guest will remember.

So if you’re looking for a way to make your day unique, hear are some ideas to get you inspired.

Wedding Day - 1

1)   Choose a theme

Themed weddings are becoming more and more popular, from English country fair to psychedelic 60’s, there is no limit to what you can do with a theme other than your budget and imagination.

When choosing a theme try and think of things that are personal to you and your partner. Do you have a joint love of sci-fi? You could have guests dress as star trek characters and decorate your venue to resemble the interior of the Starship Enterprise.

If you both love the 40’s 50’ or 60’s, retro weddings can be great fun for everyone. They give you the chance to dress in the style of your chosen era, and to have all of the music and decoration geared towards your special decade.

Colour themes can also work well if you don’t want to go too over the top. A lot of couples will have a colour scheme running through the outfits for the bridal party, but you can also notify guests in advance so that the theme is universal.

2)   Shake up the music

Wedding music has a pretty bad reputation. Cheesy DJs playing out of date love songs, and wannabe rock bands performing bad covers are all too common when it comes to after dinner entertainment.

With a wide range of ages and tastes it’s always going to be hard to please everyone, so as it’s your wedding, choose the music that gets your toes tapping.

For an alternative to the ubiquitous covers band, consider getting a jazz or swing band in. Their songs should get the dance floor buzzing and provide good background music for anyone who wants to stay chatting.

If you’re feeling really brave you could even plump for karaoke. A wide selection of songs will ensure there’s something for everyone and it will make a great addition to the wedding video.

3)   Hire a Photo Booth

Wedding photography is big business. Photographers charge high prices for their services, and when you add in the cost of an album or two, the costs can quickly sky rocket.

A great way to avoid this is to hire a photo booth for the day. You may still want a photographer for the crucial moments, but for the rest of the time your guests can do the work for you.

The great thing about photo booths is that your guests get to keep a copy of the photo, giving them a precious memory of the day a great souvenir.

4)   Go wild with the location

If you really want to make you wedding one to remember, try choosing an extreme location. From the bottom of the sea to the top of a mountain, couples have tied the knot pretty much anywhere you can imagine.

An unusual location will work best if you’re planning a small wedding, but if your guests are up for it, then the sky’s the limit. Speaking of which, how about getting married as you’re free falling towards Earth after jumping from a plane?

Or if you’d rather be closer to the ground, pack your wedding party onto a rollercoaster and get hitched while doing a loop de loop at 50 miles and hour.

5)   Go overboard

Popularised by celebrities like Katy Price is the all out wedding extravaganza. This may not be to everyone’s tastes, but it will definitely be a day your guests won’t forget in a hurry.

For a true overboard wedding, throw caution to the wind and go for everything your heart desires. From that fairy tale dress with the 24ft train to the pink carriage pulled by white horses, nothing is too much for this wedding.

This type of wedding works best in an extravagant venue, but if your budget has been splashed on a dozen white doves and a church filled with roses, then a talented decorator can turn even a village hall into a fairy tale castle.
